I am now officially 21 and to be honest, I’m not sure how I feel about it. 20 was a weird age. I was no longer a teenager but I also didn’t feel like an ‘adult’. However, to me, my birthday in general simply means I’ve turned one year older and I usually don’t make a whole fuss about it. People often say that “life is short”, thus, the fact that I’m a year older simply means that I’m running out of time? Of course not, I refuse to believe that. I have plenty of time to make all my dreams come true (as cliché as it might sound). So, in honour of turning 21, I’ve decided to share with you guys some of my thoughts and things I hope to achieve.
- Oh, Crap, I’m Now an Adult.
Turning 21 comes with this new sense of responsibility. I can’t really put it into words but now that I am 21, I feel like I must act more like an adult. I’m low-key starting to worry about my future and where my life is heading. People my age are getting engaged, having babies and I’m just chilling, living life as it comes. However, despite this underlying sense of worry regarding where exactly my life is heading, I’m very excited. I’m excited to experience life and all the ups and downs that comes with it. Life may be short but life is what you make of it. The world is my oyster and I’m ready to experience it, enjoy it and simply live it.

- Making Mistakes Is a Healthy Part of Life.
Life is basically a journey and on the road to success, there’s going to be twists and turns (cliché but true). In life, people, especially myself, are often afraid of making mistakes. If you were to ask me a two years ago what my greatest fear was, my answer would be the fear of failure. However, now that I’m older, I realise that that fear is irrational. Making mistakes is a normal part of life and it’s then up to us to learn from these mistakes and hope that we will meet success the next time around. This actually reminds me of one of my all-time favourite quotes by J.K. Rowling,
“It is impossible to live without failing at something. Unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default”.
- I Probably Should Start Reading More.
One of my goals now that I’m older is just to simply start reading more. I used to be such a big reader but then at one point, I just stopped. I’m not sure why but I hope to change that. I actually previously wrote a post on the books on my current reading list and I’m hoping to get through that list and get back into reading.
Also, if you have any suggestions on some books I should read, I’d love to hear them. Let me know in the comments.

- Time to Learn How to Swim
Fun fact about me, I don’t know how to swim. That might come as a shock but I just never learnt when I younger, despite going to swimming lessons organized by my primary school. So now that I’m 21, I think it’s time for me to get out and sign up for those swimming lessons, cause if not now, when?
- I’ve Gotta Start Traveling More
So, I’ve only just returned from a 5-day trip to Paris and I absolutely loved it. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know just how much I enjoyed myself. This short trip made me realise just how much of the world I have yet to see and I’m ready to experience it all. From now on, any chance I get to travel, I will take it! (Considering my bank account and college/work permits).
PS: Make sure to keep an eye on my blog for my ‘Paris Diaries’
- I Get to Blast “22” By Taylor Swift Next Year.
I don’t know ‘bout you, but I’m feeling…, not quite 22. Regardless of if you are a Taylor Swift fan or not, you’ve got to admit that her song ‘22’ an anthem for turning 22. So, despite not quite being able to blast it this year, I know I’ll be able to rock out to it next year when I do turn 22. In the meantime, I’ll be listening to ‘In Da Club’ by 50 Cent.

And that’s it, my thoughts about turning 21. I can’t wait to see what this year unfolds and I’m ready to experience it all. Cheers to being 21 and let’s drink to that.
Yours,
Bukola Veronica.

Speaking of drinking, most everyone agrees that once you turn 21, a flip switches and your hangovers become so much worse, so take it easy! And happy birthday!
