So, I’ve been blogging for a little over a year now and I’ve learnt so much in that relatively short amount of time. I actually wrote a post all about what I’ve learnt within a year of blogging. Make sure to check it out here! However, one thing that I didn’t mention in the post was what I’ve learnt about the blogging community in the short amount of time I’ve been a part of it.
I can easily say that before I started blogging, I believed the blogging community was very ‘dog eat dog’ world. I thought that it was all about the ‘survival of the fittest’ and that most people who were in the community were all in it for themselves. However, in just the short amount of time that I’ve been blogging, this misconception has greatly been proven wrong. From what I’ve seen so far, the blogging community is filled with some of the nicest, encouraging and most supportive group of people.

I got the inspiration for this post after attending an amazing event organized by the amazing Sabrina (@SabrinasStyleBlog). She organized a ‘Blogger’s Brunch’ event where Irish bloggers and content creators could get together, network and just collaborate with each other. I’ve really got to say kudos to Sabrina for organizing such an amazing event. I got to meet so many bloggers, both people I’ve been following on Instagram for a while as well as new bloggers and content creators who are also doing some amazing work. It was truly a day filled with lots of laughs and plain ‘ol good fun. (Let’s not forget about the mimosas, G&Ts and delicious Eggs Benedict!)

Ok, back to the topic at hand, misconceptions about the blogging community.
I truly believe that a lot of the misconceptions about the blogging community are simply from people who think blogging is “easy” and they “just don’t get it” and I can easily admit that before I started my blog, I was guilty of this kind of thinking. But, like I’ve said, my thinking has drastically changed.
The blogging community isn’t a ‘dog eat dog’ world, (of course, as in every industry, there are a subset of individuals who are very competitive and in it for all the wrong reasons but these people are a select few and there are way more people who are far from this stereotype). A few bad apples shouldn’t result in the judgement of all bloggers as competitive and unfriendly.
I’ve met so many people through this community (and if I was to start naming them all, I would be here all day), who are willing to help and give advice and simply be a good friend. These people have made me realise that blogging isn’t a one-way street. Blogging and life in general, is all about connecting, collaborating, networking and simply being there for one another. In simple terms, blogging is about building a community.

Not only did Sabrina’s blogger brunch inspire this post but I’ve also got to give some credit to Creative Gal Gang (@creativegalgang) which was founded by the amazing Kelsey Heinrichs (@kelseyinlondon). This is an online community for female bloggers and creatives that offers support and advice to those in the industry. This group has also been so welcoming and supportive and is filled with badass bloggers that are genuinely willing to help and answer any questions you might have. If you’re a female blogger and you aren’t part of this group, definitely make sure to check them out and you can join by going to www.creativegalgang.com.

All in all, there are a lot of misconceptions about the blogging community and from my personal experience within the community, a lot of these misconceptions are false and despite having a select few who do play into these misconceptions, we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and paint all bloggers with the one paintbrush.

What’s your experience with the blogging community? Has it been positive or negative? Are there any misconceptions you still have about the community if you aren’t a blogger yourself?

This is such a sweet post. The blogging community is definitely a good one! There is soo many supportive people and I’ve made a lot of friends. We all want to help and push one another. I don’t think I would have stuck out for as long as I have without the community.

I agree with you. The blogging community is extremely supportive of each other. And I’m actually very proud to be a part of this community. It’s really great to see that people actually help out each other, share genuine tips and collaborate. Doesn’t matter whether they know you or not, people are always ready to help you out.
